The Council

The AASMB Council or Board of Directors are responsible for setting the policy and direction of the Association whilst the CEO is responsible for the administration and secretarial functions of the AASMB.

Executive Committee 

PRESIDENT - PETER MEYER

peter meyerPeter’s involvement with the Wool Industry spans some 40 years, with a great passion for this natural fibre. He has been on the Australian Association of Stud Merino Breeders (AASMB) Committee as Vice President for the last 3 years and some 5 years in total. He is also a committee member and past President of the South Australian Stud Merino Sheepbreeders’ Association, as well as Co-Chairperson of the successful World Merino Insight which was held in 2016 in South Australia.

Peter has been running a mixed farming operation for forty years. He is married to Julie, with two married sons - Brett and Paul - and six grandchildren. The family have land holdings at Brinkworth, in the mid north of South Australia and at Tintinara in the south east of South Australia, which carry the Mulloorie Merino and Poll Merino Studs, which were established in 1979 and 1982 respectively.


VICE- PRESIDENT - MAX WILSON

max wilsonMax Wilson has been on the AASMB Council since 2016 and is currently President of the Qld Merino Stud Sheepbreeders’ Association, which he has been directly involved in for some 10 years. In addition, Max has been involved with his local sheep show since 1976 on a continuous basis, including President for 2 years. He has been showing sheep for many years and enjoys the opportunities to meet and mix with other Breeders in our industry.

Max’s family drew the original 10000 acre Wilgunya block in 1953 when various ballots were conducted after WW2 and country reclaimed off the Australian Pastoral Company. Since then he has purchased another 3 properties totaling 40,000 acres, which includes 6000 acres of dryland farming. The Wilgunya Merino Stud was registered in 1979. Max lives on the property with his wife Heather and eldest son Benn.


TREASURER - ANGUS BEVERIDGE

angus beveridgeAngus Beveridge is a 3rd generation stud breeder and wool grower and operates Wyuna Merinos, which was established by his grandfather in 1931. He runs it in partnership with his wife Melinda and they have two teenage children both still at school. Wyuna is located near the small village of Armatree which is in the western plains of NSW about six hours drive from Sydney. Angus has been involved with the Wool Industry since leaving University of New England with a Bachelor of Agricultural Economics.

e spent 12 months in the wool stores in Newcastle, followed by a 6 month stint in Port Phillip Woollen Mills in Melbourne. He then spent 2 years as an Export Trading Coordinator/Wool buyer with Dalgety International until 1996 when he returned to the family property to assist in running the mixed farming operation. Angus has been on the NSW Sud Merino Breeders’ Association (NSWSMBA) since 2004, becoming President in 2016 and he joined the AASMB Council in 2014.
